Strider [Brick] SNG 3.5" Folder

Picture
G10 scale with built in back-spacer. This design keeps the handle solid when receiving torsion or bending forces from hard use. This outstanding feature means stronger construction with less parts. Normally on frame lock knives you will see three screws for the handle but there will be spacers in between the two handle plates. The spacers are an extra piece which then require the screws on each side of the handle to be smaller in order to fit through the spacer. Strider's intuitive approach was to reduce the number of parts by removing the individual spacers & making the screws just a female and male which allow for both then to be larger diameter and thus stronger plus the ability to thoroughly clean them.
Hardened Stainless studs. The dual sided thumb studs allow ambidextrous use & also serve as the stopping mechanism when deploying the blade.
Screws & Bull Pivot are coated black which prevents rust and lowers maintenance.

What's a Tanto & it's purpose?

Tanto refers to the blade shape in which there are two edges rather than one sweeping curve from hilt to blade tip. Tanto shaped blades have been used historically by the Samurai & Native Americans due to it's utilitarian shape. With the front edge being a shorter cutting surface it allows you to make smaller more precise cuts. The second point on the blade also helps pierce through objects when cutting not thrusting (watch video). A tanto point also allows for a much stronger tip on the blade. The samurai used this blade shape because of it's impressive ability to pierce through metal armor. Once the initial tip has penetrated, the rest of the blade slides in easily because there is no curve. The lack of a curve also means it's much easier to sharpen & re-profile if there is a break. Tanto tipped blades can also handle being thrown which adds to their tactical repertoire. Lastly for skilled sharpeners a tanto can have the two edges be different angles to allow one knife to be multi-functional. For hunters though Tantos are not the best for skinning.

Handle Material: "Brick" G10

Picture
The thick G10 scale construction makes this model SNG the most durable to impacts of the SNG lineup. The CC & GG versions offer equal rigidity at the pivot & down the center of the handle but the "brick" G10 scale has more bulk at the corners & is known for a solid lockup with no blade play developing over time.
*The Concealed Carry (CC) or Gunner Grip (GG) SNG G10 scale is very thin & can develop blade play according to reviews online

Superior Frame Lock

Picture
On average the "brick" SNG locks up earlier than the CC & GG versions with some locking up as early as 30% which means this knife will last the longest of the different versions available.
*Compared to the CC & GG which lock up on average of 80%
*Strider uses the Hinderer lock bar stabilizer which stops the lock bar from being pushed too far out when unlocking, & being pushed in towards the handle thus preventing excess wear

Video Talk: Strider's Heat Treatment

Watch this video to see a cut test of the SNG's S30V against some other production S30V knives. Strider uses Paul Bos' formula for their blade steels & triple tempers their blades all done with particle metallurgy (PM) but doesn't specify the Rockwell hardness. See as we compare it to other knives using the same steel & find out the actual HRC!
Things to consider for new owners:
- If you're looking for a robust knife that can do it all f.e. chopping, throwing, prying & tactical use
- Street trick: the Emerson wave feature can be duplicated on the SNG by attaching zip ties to the finger hole
- 2B Graphite can be used to smooth the lockup instead of breaking in
- Screws are extremely durable & don't strip over hard use
- Tanto Blade provides a second point which helps with cutting
- Full Flat Ground Tanto is a good option without any real sacrifice in durability if you're more about cutting not prying (watch vid)
- Flamed titanium lockside will last longer but will take longer to break in. Also it is more grippy but then the blade action isn't as smooth as stonewashed.

Strider brick sng tiger stripe spearpoint sabre grind with black g10: SOLD

Picture
brand new direct from strider no blade play. Mostly centered. flamed ti side. Special offer on a beautifully made knife that's got no flaws.

Notes on knife: No concerns. The knife is great. No lockup issues immaculate

For those concerned about the saber grind just resharpen with a lower edge angle or consider giving a slight semi convex edge. s30v can hold a thin edge profile no problem.

sNG FFG with stonewash/green g10

Picture
Everything perfect except for slight scuffs on the blade tip. Centered with no blade play. Lockup is 50% though. Knife is mint. RARE combination of stonewashed with black blade & hardware!

Status: Sold

SNG Full Flat Ground Green G10

Picture
SOLD S30V blade black coated. All screws guncoated. MINT condition. Tip edge is ground a little left. Blade is nice & clean. some scuffs on the choil. Tight action & smooth unlocking. Blade centered. Screws, pivot, pocket clip, corners all perfect & clean. Flamed Titanium lockside. Knife has been lubricated & wax applied to screws. It's a worker that needs little maintenance cuz' of all the coating. The blade coating & flamed Titanium make it grippy but stiff & will need breaking in. It's one of the nicest I've come across in terms of finish but it's odd that the lock isn't matched up. The lock up has a slight movement common in production SNG & SMF models. Once the washers & coat smooth out it should clear up when re-tightened. Will need to disassemble & bend lockbar further in to get a more solid lockup but then it's perfect. Can adjust upon request.
